The British Academy Film Awards on Sunday celebrated the anti-German movie “All Still in the Western Front”. It was also awarded Best Picture. This will increase the chances that it will be considered for nomination at the Oscars. The fourth time that the award for Best Picture was”The Banshees of Inisheron,” an Irish film “The Banshees of Inisheron” and “Elvis” won the prize for fourth place. Edd Berger was awarded the award for Best Director for “All Quiet” in addition to other prizes such as Best Cinematography and Best Score. In a surprise, Austin Butler received a prize too.

Cate Blanchett was presented with the Best Actress prize for Orchestral Drama “Tar”. Martin McDonagh’s movie “Banshees” which is an edgy and darkly funny story of an acquaintance who turns to the wrong side, won with the Best British Film. McDonagh joked that he’d received an email about the award and was asked “Best which ad?” McDonagh was filming in Ireland with an Irish crew, and receiving British financing for the film laughed that he is an British born and the child of Irish parents.

The equivalent to the Hollywood Academy Awards, the EE BAFTA Film Ads were awarded with awards for Best Supporting Actor. It was reported that the Academy Awards’ frontrunner, “Everything everywhere at Once” is a bit in its low score. One of the BAFTA nominations was awarded to edit. Alison Hammond and Richard E. Grant were the hosts of the event that took place at the London’s Royal Festival Hall. The awards will provide us with an idea of possible Oscar nominations for March.

The Academy is working on making the ceremony more welcoming. However, there are numerous things to be done. Stephen Grant, the host was jovial about the famous fight that took place during the fight between Chris Rock and Will Smith during the last Oscar ceremony. Prince William was in attendance too. The prince is head of the British film and television academy.

William was accompanied by Kate with her black velvet coat and tuxedo. Kate was wearing an Alexander McQueen dress that she was wearing at the BAFTAs. Helen Mirren honored William’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II by paying tribute. Mirren is well-known in the role of The Queen in film and her performance as the Queen in “The Audience” was dubbed Elizabeth as the country’s most famous woman. The British Film Academy made changes to diversify their advertising. There was no woman in the running for the award of Best Director in this year for the seventh consecutive time as all the nominated for the leading parts were female.

All media types, including animated films, 11 women directors had the opportunity to be considered. The only exception was Gina Princebywood who received a nomination for the best director in the film “The Women King” is the sole woman nominated. Krishnendu Majumdar (chair of BAFTA) said that reflecting on the academy was an arduous and humble experience and added that the academy would continue to perform the “vital job” that is required to create that everyone is on the same level. Ariana DeBose kicked off the evening by performing “Sisters Are Doing It For themselves” which was a song that pays tribute to Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett.

In the summary

The 2013 BAFTAs are a stunning show of unity, diversity and respect. BAFTAs are created to showcase the amazing talent Britain has to offer in the field of film as well as other areas. The BAFTAs bring attention to William, Kate and Helen Mirren, but also the disparities between those who were nominated for important roles in the film industry. That’s why the whole film industry must be more open to acknowledging people of different background. In this way, we will have the ability to build an environment that is more welcoming and unifying.
